The Open Heart
What does it mean to have a heart that is open?
Before we start to go deeper into the heart, it is important to melt away all the layers of protection we have built up around the heart. We build these walls and shields as a way to protect our hearts, either out of fear of being hurt, not wanting to be hurt again, or out of survival. But the simple truth is that the heart doesn’t need protecting. It is only the mind and the ego that think it needs protection. Leaving the true heart’s wisdom and voice silenced.
We all hear these incredible talks, quotes, people saying that we need to live in our hearts, and practice vulnerability. These ideas are so exciting and thought provoking, but don’t get us any closer to actually being able to embody what that really means.
Today as you open the heart you will begin to feel what it means to live with a heart that is truly open. Even if just for a few breaths or just the beginning of this process for you. Remember, this is a practice. It’s about having an experience that you can use as a measuring stick for when you are out the world. Moment to moment, asking yourself - How open is my heart right now? What will it take for me to open it further?
To have an open heart means you are willing to feel whatever it is that the heart feels and trust the wisdom of the heart to move you through any experience and every feeling.
Next time you are overcome with emotion ask yourself - How would my heart guide me through this? All feelings have a beginning, a middle and an end. It’s your true heart that can guide you through to the other side. You just have to stay with it, stay open, and surrender to it’s wisdom.
